Director – University of Colombo Institute for Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences (UCIARS) – University of Colombo(UOC) – Hambantota

The University of Colombo Institute for Agro-Technology and Rural Sciences (UCIARS) invites applications for the Post of Director up to 28th July 2026.
The applicants should be citizens of Sri Lanka and should be less than 63 years of age. The successful applicant will hold the office for a period of three years from the date of appointment or until he/she completes his/her 65th year, whichever occurs earlier.
The UCIARS was established in September 2008 at Weligatta, Hambantota, and is affiliated with the University of Colombo.
The Institute is conducting courses (Bachelor's Degree in Agro-Technology) and providing instructions, training, research and development, consultancies, and community extension programmes in Agro-Technology, Agri-businesses, Rural Sciences, and other related areas.
The Director shall be the Principal Executive Officer, Principal Academic Officer, and the Accounting Officer of the Institute. He shall be an Ex-officio member and the Chairman of the Board of Management, Academic Syndicate, and the Boards of Study of the Institute. He is also a member of the Senate. The Director shall be responsible for the maintenance of Discipline within the Institute under the direction of the Vice Chancellor of the University of Colombo.
The Director shall be a person with a vision to achieve the goals of the institute through his/her intellectual as well as managerial experience. The applicant is expected to be a person of high academic caliber and integrity with a record of excellent research publication profile, proven leadership qualities with a high level of interpersonal skills, and should have a clear understanding of policy issues.
The successful applicant is required to be on a full-time basis at the UCIARS, Weligatta, Hambantota.
The Director will receive a salary of a Professor and other allowances applicable to the post.

• A duly completed application form [available for download on the UCIARS website (www.uciars.cmb.ac.lk)].
• A complete Curriculum Vitae of the applicant, including date of birth (a certified copy of the Birth certificate must be attached).
• A statement of vision for the development of the institute.
• A brief account of what he/she proposes to achieve, if appointed to the post of Director.
• Certified copies of certificates of academic and professional qualifications and evidences for the leadership, research publications, appreciations and administration.
• Where the incumbent Director is an applicant or had held the post of Director of the institute before, he/she shall give a Report highlighting accomplishments during his/her first period of office. A soft copy of that report in PDF format should be submitted to the electronic mail address specified by the Deputy Registrar in the advertisement.
• Applicant serving in Public Sector, Corporations, Statutory Bodies and Higher Educational Institutions should forward their applications through the Heads of the institutions confirming that the applicant could be released from the institution.
